Mens Rugby 2009

Souris Men's Rugby, 2009.

The Souris Regional High School Men's Rugby team was first founded in 2008, under head coach Marcus Dunphy.

Formative YearsEdit

In its inaugural year, the SRHS Men's Rugby team opened the season with a win against Morell Regional High School in AA action, and ended with a bronze medal win against Morell as well (Briand & Humphrey). They wore green UPEI jerseys for the majority of the season, as they hadn't gotten their own yet.

Returning for the 2009 season, the team was again coached by Dunphy, with the addition of Logan Sauve as assistant coach. Jonathan McInnis served as team manager. They recorded four wins in the regular season, including victories over Westisle on the road, Morell, and Colonel Grey (Cheverie & Mooney, 68). They won a silver medal in the AA finals. (Cheverie & Mooney, 68).

In the 2010 season, Souris beat out Westisle 5-0 to win men's gold in double overtime at the PEISAA Paladin Business Solutions provincial senior AA rugby championships in Charlottetown (The Guardian). Contributing to a successful season was both Graham Leslie and Nathan Conway, who each were named PEISAA Provincial Sport All Stars (Mooney). Lance Mingo earned SRHS most improved for men's rugby, while Graham Leslie won team MVP and Lucas Peters won an award for dedication (Mooney).
