He lived in Basin Head, and made his living as a farmer and a fisherman. He was married twice: first to Loretta (Black Hill) Stewart at an unknown date, who then died on 1 March 1921, and then to Irene Margaret Ching on 13 October 1925 in Kingsboro by W R MacWalker, the Baptist Parsonage. Joshua died 15 April 1968 in Kingsboro. He was buried at South Lake, in the Church of Christ cemetery.
A complete list of his children is currently unknown to the author. Elva L. MacDonald was his daughter.
