George was born on 1 December 1828 (listed elsewhere as 1 November 1830) in Grand River Wharf, Lot 56, PEI. His occupation was Cod Fisherman, Ship's Carpenter, and Master Wheel Maker. He married Marie Swallow in 1850, and with her he had 6 children: Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mitchell (Chaffey), Robert Chaffey, and four others whose names are not available at this time. She died at age 35 in 1865, and he then later married another woman whose name is now unknown.
